Economic Trend-  U.S. weekly jobless claims fall, but labor market is cooling

b)      I believe this opportunity exists because I have noticed that the number of people unemployed seems to rise around the holiday season, despite the unemployment percentage reported by the government. It is supported by this article in which the number of weekly jobless grew around the holidays and then returned to normal after the season.

c)       The prototypical customer is obviously unemployed individuals during the holiday season, but more specifically individuals who are expected to provide holiday presents or celebrations for their children or family. These people may be in different areas or income levels.

d)       I do believe that exploiting the opportunity would prove difficult because the targeted group now no longer has money or power.

I see this opportunity because my boyfriend’s father lost his job this year right before the holidays and it was a struggle to be their family to buy gifts and host meals for extended family.

Economic Trend- Is the rise in U.S. corporate debt a cause for concern.

b)      I thought this opportunity existed because of the increases frequency of large nationwide companies, such as Sports Authority, Toys R Us, etc., closing and going out of business due to debt. This is backed by the article which states that corporate debt is responsible for half of the nation’s annual GDP.

c)       The prototypical customer would be the corporate entity themselves, thus by association the officers who run the company and the owners who have bought shares in the company.

d)      I believe that exploiting the opportunity is possible at certain stages in debt. Near the end where they are in the process of closing and selling off merchandise they do not have the money for a solution, but before that point the officers and stock holders have the power to make some change.

I see this opportunity because a few years ago when a specific store announced it’s closing I regularly went to the store to track the discounts of merchandise until it was so cheap it felt like they were giving it away. This sparked my interest in why there was no fail safe that could help these corporate companies restart.

Regulation Change- Changes in the Food Stamp requirements will reduce the number of people who are eligible.

·         I believe this opportunity exists because by changing the rules and making the regulation stricter, individuals who once relied on food stamps will be looking for other ways to afford groceries for their families.

·         The prototypical customer would be individuals who were previously on food stamps but the change in regulation has deemed them now ineligible.

·         Exploiting this opportunity would be difficult. The customers do not have excessive amounts of money to spend on the product but they would be desperate to find a solution so it is possible to exploit.

I see this opportunity because in my hometown I babysit for several low income families that receive food stamps. The regulation changes do not affect the families I work with but I know that if they were to be deemed ineligible finding a way to purchase groceries and feed their families would be an extreme struggle.

Regulation change- Fisheries of the Northeastern United States: IMplementing Permiting and reporting for Private Recreational Tilefish Vessels

·        I believe this opportunity exists because the captains
of these fishing boats have never had to create reports before and the new
regulation would require them to fill out paperwork and forms they are not
familiar with

·        The prototypical customer would be a Private Tilefish
Fisherman who has not previously been exposed to government reporting forms and
have no knowledge in how to complete them.

·        Exploiting this opportunity is very possible because
these fisherman have the money to fish for enjoyment, thus have spare funds to
place towards helping complete their required forms.

I am aware of this opportunity because being from florida my
family is very involved in outdoor activities. Last fall my brother killed a
banded duck on his duck hunt and these are required to be reported to the
federal government. Not knowing how to use the reporting form or how to send in
the band, he paid his buddy $10 to handle the process for him.

26A ·         This semester I did not necessarily fail a class or an exam but a goal I had set for myself. I had promised myself that I would not fall behind in my online classes and be scrambling for exams like I did last semester. By coming to ENT in person and watching my elective livestreamed I was mostly on top of it until my social schedule and sorority friends limited me from watching the 5 hours of economics lectures that were assigned every week. By the time spring break had finished I had over 30 hours of lectures that I needed to catch up on in 1 week for the upcoming exam. I feel like I had failed myself and fallen back into bad habits that led to my unsatisfactory grade last semester. ·         I learned that while a busy social schedule is fun and good for your happiness, choosing to put social or sorority life above your goals and the time required for your classes is never the correct ch...

14A- Halfway Reflection

14A- 1.       Tenacity is a competency:   In order to keep up with this course I have created an pre-deadline for myself to ensure all my assignments are completed before the due date and a high quality. Developing this habit has allowed me to manage my time more accurately and not turn in lackluster work. Because this class requires some outside of the library interaction, looking at assignments the week before they are due is now a behavior I have tried to implement this in the past few weeks when the assignments required interviews, which are not possible in the library at 2 am when you’re trying to beat a deadline. In order to be successful in ENT you must interact with other people and do so in a timely manner. 2.       Tenacity is also about attitude: When I was extremely a couple of weeks ago I put off all of my ENT homework because it is usually the last thing due for the week. By doing this however, I found myse...

29A 1.       Opportunity ·         New environmental protection movements have brought to light how environmentally damaging plastic is to our ecosystems, especially our oceans. The single use plastics are the greatest under fire because they are disposed of in great numbers and do not decompose, thus leaving trash to pollute the oceans and lands. ·         After a video emerged of a sea turtle having a straw stuck in its nostril, the push to stop the use of plastic straws was born. It began with the policy of not giving out straws unless asked, then to straw-less cups, and finally some cities have completely banned the distribution of plastic straws by restaurants and other straw serving establishments. With this came the implementation of paper straws in every restaurant, coffee shop, bar, and gas station. Paper straws were simply awful. They disintegrate in your drink and become l...
