13A- Reading Reflection

13A- 13A - Grinding it Out: The Making of McDonald’s , Ray Kroc 1.       a.       What surprised you the most? What surprised me the most is that Ray Kroc, the man behind McDonalds, did not create the restaurant. All he did was make a contract with the brothers who invented the masterpiece that gave him the rights to expand it. I had always believed that he was the one that came up with and developed the idea, but this is not the case. This version of entrepreneurship is about using someone else’s ideas and making them profitable. I did not know that this was even considered entrepreneurship. b.      What about the entrepreneur did you most admire? In this case I admired that the entrepreneur only sold what he felt the customer would need. Before he worked with McDonald’s he sold paper cups and eventually milkshake makers. When he worked as a salesman, he said that he only sold businesses tools that would improv...

14A- Halfway Reflection

14A- 1.       Tenacity is a competency:   In order to keep up with this course I have created an pre-deadline for myself to ensure all my assignments are completed before the due date and a high quality. Developing this habit has allowed me to manage my time more accurately and not turn in lackluster work. Because this class requires some outside of the library interaction, looking at assignments the week before they are due is now a behavior I have tried to implement this in the past few weeks when the assignments required interviews, which are not possible in the library at 2 am when you’re trying to beat a deadline. In order to be successful in ENT you must interact with other people and do so in a timely manner. 2.       Tenacity is also about attitude: When I was extremely a couple of weeks ago I put off all of my ENT homework because it is usually the last thing due for the week. By doing this however, I found myse...

12A- Figuring out Buyer Behavior Choosing a Segment: For this assignment I chose the segment of customers who live in areas where plastic straws are banned, care about the environmental impact of disposable plastic, and frequent establishments which serve inadequate substitutes to plastic straws (paper etc.). Interviews: ·         College student who has tried to implement sustainable practices in her life. ·         Mother of 2 who watched the sea turtle video and cried as the straw was pulled from its nose. ·         A young adult who just moved to the area and hates paper straws for their quality yet hates plastic straws because of their pollution. What I Learned: I learned in these interviews that the demand for this product will be low if not correctly marketed. When I first explained the product only 1/3 interviewees understood what it actually was. The young ...

Idea Napkin- 11A 1.)      I am Jordan Jacobs, a Freshman General Studies Business major from Tampa, FL. I aspire to work in hospital administration, and I care about the satisfaction of every person with the good or service they receive. I have worked in customer service and by doing so learned to solve issues and improve overall quality. I want to serve others and make changes that can influence and improve their lives. By leading this business, I would be able to provide a product that improves customer satisfaction for businesses every day.   This would be a fulfilling career that I fully enjoy and feel passionate about which is something I look forward to. 2.)     I am offering a product that would be marketed to businesses as an alternative to paper straws. This would meet the unmet need of businesses’ ability to satisfy customers after the implementation of a plastic straw ban. Customers who purchase from me will be able to follow regul...
9A- Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2 ·          WHO: After my extensive interviews and responses it seems like the people who I was targeting are not necessarily the most viable option. I previously had been aimed towards all individuals who are unhappy with the paper straw replacement after the plastic straw ban in Gainesville, Florida. I realized after my interviews however, that the paper straws caused more than just a nuisance. They were dangerous for small children who tried to swallow flaking off pieces and were difficult to use for elderly people, potentially damaging their false teeth. o    In the first two interviews, I ventured father from campus and spoke with women in my gym class, both of which are mothers. They said that their toddler children are not able to drink without a straw and the paper straws lead them to chew on and try to swallow paper. Both agreed that they were fearful of their child choking on the pape...

7A- Paper Straw Solution ·         Opportunity: o   The updated regulations banning the use of plastic straws in Gainesville has caused businesses and other straw using entities to switch to paper straws. This is a far unequal substitute as paper straws are truly unusable. §  The who: All Gainesville residents who are unsatisfied with the plastic straw substitute. §  The what: Paper straws are an insufficient replacement. §  The why: Plastic straws have been commonly rallied against after a viral video of a turtle with a straw stuck in its nose. The transfer to paper straws is because of the reduced impact they have on the environment. o   Testing the who: Gainesville is not the only city which has banned the use of plastic straws, thus the who is not limited to Gainesville residents, but to all people who are affected by the implementation of paper straws. However, I think the who is limited to those that are unhappy with th...

6A- Economic Trend-   U.S. weekly jobless claims fall, but labor market is cooling a)       https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-economy/u-s-weekly-jobless-claims-fall-but-labor-market-cooling-idUSKBN1Z81PX b)       I believe this opportunity exists because I have noticed that the number of people unemployed seems to rise around the holiday season, despite the unemployment percentage reported by the government. It is supported by this article in which the number of weekly jobless grew around the holidays and then returned to normal after the season. c)        The prototypical customer is obviously unemployed individuals during the holiday season, but more specifically individuals who are expected to provide holiday presents or celebrations for their children or family. These people may be in different areas or income levels. d)         I do believe ...

8A- Solving the Problem

8A- Solving the Problem The product I have come up with is in regards to the ban of plastic straws in the city of Gainesville. Specifically at places which replaced the plastic straws with paper versions, hey are an insufficient substitute.   While there are some reusable straw options the majority of them are hard to clean or not convenient for everyday use. I would like to create a product which is both useable for the everyday person and falls within the restrictions of Gainesville’s new legislature.  I have come up with 2 solutions to this issue: First, bamboo straws would be a better solution. While more expensive a bamboo option would be more durable than the typical paper straw that is being used and is not harmful to the environment. This would be a better option than paper straws with a smaller increase in price. Glass straws that are used, sanitized, and reused. This option would be for high end restaurants which have the facilities and manpowe...
