29A 1.       Opportunity ·         New environmental protection movements have brought to light how environmentally damaging plastic is to our ecosystems, especially our oceans. The single use plastics are the greatest under fire because they are disposed of in great numbers and do not decompose, thus leaving trash to pollute the oceans and lands. ·         After a video emerged of a sea turtle having a straw stuck in its nostril, the push to stop the use of plastic straws was born. It began with the policy of not giving out straws unless asked, then to straw-less cups, and finally some cities have completely banned the distribution of plastic straws by restaurants and other straw serving establishments. With this came the implementation of paper straws in every restaurant, coffee shop, bar, and gas station. Paper straws were simply awful. They disintegrate in your drink and become l...

30A This semester I had a few moments where I dreaded doing the assignments for this class and did not want to comment on another student’s post before Monday. I think that the most formative experience was when I had to explain who wanted my product. Before I had always just thought of what my product was and how to make it. I never had worried about the success of other people buying it. This made me realize that it may be harder than I expected to convince businesses to use my product.                        In 10 years, I will still vividly remember the face of a close friend when I told her that bamboo straws were the future. She looked at me like I was crazy. And maybe I am, but I truly believe that this could be the next big thing. My most joyous experience would be when my friends and family had to record the interviews about me. This was a great confidence boost and re...

27A- Biography/Autobiography Miracles Happen, Mary Kay Ash 1.       In reading about the entrepreneur one quote stuck with me that was truly surprising. She says, “God first, family second, career third.” This statement, while short, can leave a lasting impact on the priorities of an entrepreneur. When Mary Kay says this, she makes it clear that, while high on her priorities, a career shouldn’t be more important than family or your faith. This is what I admired most about the entrepreneur as well. Someone who can put their faith above their venture is truly what I want to model myself after. I did not admire that she used other women as the salespeople of her company without employing them. This is not really fair because she is essentially employing them without providing them the benefits of employment. Mary Kay Ash encountered many trials before starting her own company, such as unappreciative supervisors and unreceived promotions. To combat these, she ...

·         I do not plan to run my business and attend an office job every day. I wouldn’t necessarily want to sell my business though. Ideally I would like to build it to the point where I could hire people to manage and run the business while I profit from the returns and can have the freedom to do what I want without the stress of the business stress. Not selling it means that I can profit of the sales for as long as the company is in business not just the price which I sell it for. ·         I selected this because I have never been the type of person who likes to work. I want to live free of any stress and responsibilities and have the freedom to travel when I want and raise my children as an involved parent. This business is not something I want to keep in my family for years, but rather have as a form of passive income to support my family with. ·         I don’t ...

26A ·         This semester I did not necessarily fail a class or an exam but a goal I had set for myself. I had promised myself that I would not fall behind in my online classes and be scrambling for exams like I did last semester. By coming to ENT in person and watching my elective livestreamed I was mostly on top of it until my social schedule and sorority friends limited me from watching the 5 hours of economics lectures that were assigned every week. By the time spring break had finished I had over 30 hours of lectures that I needed to catch up on in 1 week for the upcoming exam. I feel like I had failed myself and fallen back into bad habits that led to my unsatisfactory grade last semester. ·         I learned that while a busy social schedule is fun and good for your happiness, choosing to put social or sorority life above your goals and the time required for your classes is never the correct ch...

25A What’s next?                I think that the next step for my company, based on the success of my bamboo straws, would be something that further helps replace paper straws, but rather in higher end restaurants. This would be a straw that would function like a utensil and be put in the dishwasher and reused for each customer.   Interviews **Corona Prevented** Existing Market Reflection Although I was not able to interview or get ahold of interviewees due to the pandemic. I did ask friends and family what they thought of my market. The main answer I got was that while this does provide a solution, no one is going to change their restaurant choice because one has bamboo while the other has paper. This being said, I understood exactly how necessary a price would be in this market. My brother told me that I should make sure that businesses know my product is equally priced and ex...

23A 1.       Professional Attitude: I have an innate ability to converse and earn the respect of professionals because of the way I speak to them a.       Valuable: This will be of great value because I will obviously need to speak to business professionals in the path to building my business b.       Rare: This is not necessarily rare, but somewhat scarce for someone my age and with limited to no business experience. c.       Inimitable: This is imitable, however my personality and talking points are not because they are unique to my personality. d.       Non-Substitutable: I could have other sales people to have these relationships for me but it is an unnecessary use of funds. 2.       No Other Identical Product: My product is the only one that can follow environmental guidelines, be single use, and satisfy cus...

22A LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hA5LlUAM0j0   Reflection: On my last post I received more comments than on my first which I enjoyed. It gave me peace of mind that more than one person was watching my video. Both of the comments said that they enjoyed the statistic I had started my elevator pitch with, so I was sure to keep that the same and then edited my pitch to   have a transition based on the facts I gave. In passing, a friend watched my video and mentioned that it would be beneficial to add why switching to bamboo straws would help businesses, so I put that aspect in as well. I did not receive any harsh feedback, but did reshoot 3-4 times in order to have good tone, timing, and eye contact. While I didn’t make any noticeable changes I did change my background to make it more of an outdoor atmosphere than an office setting. This is because I think that a more relaxed and interesting background could lead viewers to be more interested i...

21A- Reading Reflection No. 2 Innovation and Entrepreneurship , Peter Drucker 1.       What was the general theme or argument of the book? a.       The general message that Peter Drucker was trying to convey is that innovation and entrepreneurship are disciplines. They are categories of knowledge that must be learned. The whole book focuses on the behavior and decisions of entrepreneurs. I feel that this is a book stating that entrepreneurship can be taught, and anyone can learn. 2.       How did the book, in your opinion, connect and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003? a.       In the first part of the book, Drucker claims that entrepreneurs simply exploit changes in order to provide a new service or product. This lines up exactly with what we learned the first part of the semester when we identified bugs, problems, and changes. However, in addition to wha...

20A- Growing your Social Capital

20A- Growing your Social Capital Domain Expert: Domain Expert: 1.       Chanelle Sladics 2.         Co-founder and Chief Visionary Officer of Simply Straws. She has been a successful supplier in the reusable straw market and has built a popular brand surrounding her product. Her marketing has been directed to individuals who value their effect on the environment which is exactly the market I am trying to tap. 3.       I contacted this individual through their personal website’s “contact” tab. 4.       I explained that this budding idea from my entrepreneurship class and asked for advice on how to market my product in a way that will be popular to individual consumers. She did not reply so I doubt there is an expectation for a favor in the future. 5.       While Chanelle did not answer my message, she did inspire me to do research on her ...

19A-Idea Napkin 2 ·         My name is Jordan Jacobs. After reflecting on what my closest friends and family have said about me I have come to the conclusion that I am a hardworking, organized individual who never settles for anything less than perfection. I am also passionate about things I am involved in and feel things very deeply. This leads me to spend massive amounts of time trying to ensure the best possible outcome for all parties involved. I aspire to be a leader in an organization, and one that cares personally for each and every employee and client. If I were to start this business I would be fully committed to its success and building its popularity. I would very likely invest all personal time to make contacts with customers and use my passion to connect with employees in a way that makes them feel valued. ·         The product I am offering has not changed. I still plan to produce bamboo straws a...
