5A- Identifying Local Opportunities

5A- Identifying Local Opportunities ·         “Commission to decide rezoning request Tuesday” by Michael O’Hearn of the Time-Georgian o    https://cdn.newseum.org/dfp/jpg30/lg/GA_TG.jpg o    This story written of January 30 th , 2020 explains how a state patrol station is being demolished. Essentially the main point of the article is that since the building was left vacant it serves no purpose. o    The main problem presented in this story is that the station went from being the busiest post in the area to completely abandoned in about three years. The vacancy left the building to fall into despair as no one was responsible for the upkeep after the office was relocated. It was described as being in “deplorable conditions” and the situation was even brought before the county commissioners to be fixed. o    The people who have this problem are the residents of the area who must live near the b...

Opportunity Belief -4A

Assignment 4A- Opportunity Belief                I believe that there is an awful need for the solution of the paper straw epidemic. Last summer a viral video displaying a sea turtle with a plastic straw lodged in its nose took the world by storm and a it spurred a movement to ban the use of plastic straws. Environmental activism was now a popular stance and the “VSCO girl” metal straw became all the rage. Over the course of the past few months it has only grown in popularity and some local governments, like our very own Alachua county, have banned the use of plastic straws. The only problem with this is that the all institutions transferred to paper straw replacements. If you have not experienced the hell that is drinking from a paper straw, I warn you to take my word for it and understand it is awful. They essentially disintegrate in your drink and bend and break easily. Now I fully believe that plastic straws a...

One time I was exposed to Entrepreneurship was this fall after joining my sorority. As a member of almost all panhellenic chapters, meal plans are included in dues and two meals a day are supplied at you chapter’s house. During the first exam week of the semester   a large number of sisters found themselves missing lunches and dinners because they were in exam reviews and studying. A sister who had a lighter schedule and a vehicle created a delivery service where other sisters paid to have their meals served into Tupperware and brought to their apartment or dorm or left in the community fridge at the house. This took little to no money to start and was simply a commitment of time she had a surplus of. It solved an issue that by specifically targeting the small group of individuals with the issue and was able to do so at a price point that the customers were easily willing to pay. I joined this class not because I want to be an entrepreneur myself, but   rather because I ...

Bug List

1.       The showers in my dorm hall consistently have hair on the walls and strange liquids pooled on the floor a.       WHY it exists: Because of the communal nature of the shower facilities, everyone on the floor uses the shower and there is no commitment to keep it clean or sanitary. 2.       My random roommate makes our entire room smell awful and keeps her side a complete mess. a.       WHY it exists: My roommate is simply lazy and inconsiderate of her effect on me as someone sharing a living space with her. Leaving old food and dirty laundry causes both a smell and a mess that is objectively bothersome. 3.       The on-campus Starbucks baristas consistently make my simple drink order incorrectly and take more time than a standard barista. a.       WHY it exists: Because most of the on-campus Starbucks employees...
