While my product can be sold to both individuals and businesses, for this exercise I am focusing this assignment on a small business owner.
This “avatar” is a 28 year old woman who owns a small coffee and tea shop on the outskirts of the college campus of Gainesville. She attended Santa Fe to study finance for a few semesters before realizing school was not her forte and she wanted a more laid-back lifestyle. While she wasn’t native to Gainesville after living there, she felt comfortable with the college atmosphere. She was a member of the climate action club and volunteered on the weekend at the animal shelter. She started recycling and “going green” after coming to Gainesville. In her free time she likes ride her bike or go for hikes.
Her everyday outfit is usually a t-shirt, Nike shorts, and either Birkenstocks or Chacos. After moving out of her conservative parents’ house she decided to get her nose pierced. She also cut her hair into a bob and let it go naturally curly. Her boyfriend is an essential oil sales rep and she has 2 oil diffusers in her coffee and tea shop. She gets to and from the shop in her 2010 white Toyota Prius that she is proud to drive as a hybrid. She wants whoever is going to be president to proctor world peace and to end childhood hunger.
She is very conscious of the way that her business affects the environment and has eliminated plastic and Styrofoam cups and packaging. After the ban of plastic straws, she realized how many straws she really used, but then received many complaints about the poor quality of paper straws. She is wondering how she can be environmentally conscious but also improve customer satisfaction while also following the city of Gainesville’s guidelines.

My avatar and myself have no similarities. I do not enjoy the "earthy" or "hipster" side of Gainesville. This is not a coincidence simply because the product I created is not necessarily for individuals like myself, but rather the people who provide a product to me, i.e. I would go to her coffee shop and not enjoy a paper straw.

  1. Hello Jordan,

I think that you did a wonderful job in your post describing with great detail all the features of the prototypical customer for your business product. It was also great to see that you included a picture of how your target customer should look like. I think that you gave a convincing explanation why they should be interested in your product. I also noted that you addressed the similarities or the lack of them in your case between you and your target customer. Overall, I really think that your post was outstanding! Finally, stay safe!

    Sincerely,

  2. I think you hit the nail on the head for this post. You really went into detail and I can imagine a small business owner using your straws. In fact, while reading your post, I came across an idea that could expand your consumer base. Much like the cup advertising example presented in lecture. You could sell your straws to advertising agencies that could put logos on the straws. After all, customers look at straws just as much as they do cups. This would not only net you more customers, but also present you with an opportunity to get your straws out to more restaurants and other small businesses.

  3. Hey Jordan,
I really think that your avatar portrays your market segment very accurately. A 28 year old who's conscious about the environment seems like a great market segment that would definitely be interested in further recycling with paper or bamboo straws as you have suggested. I also really like the fact that you mentioned that she drives a Prius as it's the perfect car for someone who's environmentally friendly and modest. Overall, great work!

26A ·         This semester I did not necessarily fail a class or an exam but a goal I had set for myself. I had promised myself that I would not fall behind in my online classes and be scrambling for exams like I did last semester. By coming to ENT in person and watching my elective livestreamed I was mostly on top of it until my social schedule and sorority friends limited me from watching the 5 hours of economics lectures that were assigned every week. By the time spring break had finished I had over 30 hours of lectures that I needed to catch up on in 1 week for the upcoming exam. I feel like I had failed myself and fallen back into bad habits that led to my unsatisfactory grade last semester. ·         I learned that while a busy social schedule is fun and good for your happiness, choosing to put social or sorority life above your goals and the time required for your classes is never the correct ch...

14A- Halfway Reflection

14A- 1.       Tenacity is a competency:   In order to keep up with this course I have created an pre-deadline for myself to ensure all my assignments are completed before the due date and a high quality. Developing this habit has allowed me to manage my time more accurately and not turn in lackluster work. Because this class requires some outside of the library interaction, looking at assignments the week before they are due is now a behavior I have tried to implement this in the past few weeks when the assignments required interviews, which are not possible in the library at 2 am when you’re trying to beat a deadline. In order to be successful in ENT you must interact with other people and do so in a timely manner. 2.       Tenacity is also about attitude: When I was extremely a couple of weeks ago I put off all of my ENT homework because it is usually the last thing due for the week. By doing this however, I found myse...

29A 1.       Opportunity ·         New environmental protection movements have brought to light how environmentally damaging plastic is to our ecosystems, especially our oceans. The single use plastics are the greatest under fire because they are disposed of in great numbers and do not decompose, thus leaving trash to pollute the oceans and lands. ·         After a video emerged of a sea turtle having a straw stuck in its nostril, the push to stop the use of plastic straws was born. It began with the policy of not giving out straws unless asked, then to straw-less cups, and finally some cities have completely banned the distribution of plastic straws by restaurants and other straw serving establishments. With this came the implementation of paper straws in every restaurant, coffee shop, bar, and gas station. Paper straws were simply awful. They disintegrate in your drink and become l...
