16A- What's your special sauce?

16A-

16A- Special Sauce
Five ways in which I think I have human capital:
  • ·        Determination: When I set my mind to something, I have no breaks until I fully achieve that goal. This has allowed me to be able to study for hours on end and focus, yielding high results academically.
  • ·        Leadership: I have a natural leading personality and have held several leadership roles in organizations. This gives me an attitude of formulating plans and running meetings without needing other leaders to take charge.
  • ·        Independence: My whole life I have been a self-starter. I do things on my own and don’t ask for help with much.  This is a great addition to human capital because it means that I do not require much attention or partnership.
  • ·        Communication: If there was ever an over communicator, I would be it. I like to have memos, email, or text confirmation for meetings and prefer that there be an official communication for almost all transactions.
  • ·        Professionalism: I always approach people in a respectful, mature manner and try form relationships that would be beneficial for the business field. This would be a great benefit to the human capital of a business.

a.      I feel like this interview revealed people see me as passionate and that I am emotional with my responses to situation. This is good because it means I am personally invested in each outcome however, could be bad as it means that I take situations personally.
a.      In this interview my personability was specifically highlighted. Madi met me when I was a shyer individual and has seen the way I have grown to be more outgoing and willing to talk to people.  I am proud of this because it is a strength I did not originally have, but one that I developed out of necessity.
a.      This interview highlighted my boyfriend’s perspective about mainly my organizational tendencies. While I may be a bit OCD it definitely correlates with the organization that I feel I could bring as a valuable element to a workplace.
a.         This interview, being from my mom’s perspective is a bit more personal. She was right on target with the self-starting aspect of my personality. This is something I addressed in the independence aspect of my personality.
a.          Jo is my absolute best friend. We are together every minute of the day. Her note to my organization and dedication to schoolwork is not a surprise as I mentioned it in my 5 points of my human capital.

Reflection: After hearing what other people had to say about my strengths, it made me realize that I have developed qualities I did not have before. When my friend called me outgoing I was really surprised because before college I always felt like I was shy, especially in social situations. Another thing I realized in these interviews is that other people do not see the same weaknesses in my strength that I do. Independence could be damaging to the workplace, but my friends and family did not note that my personality was overly bearing in the independence aspect. I think my interviews were accurate and I do not disagree with anyone’s assessment.

  1. Hello Jordan,

It was great reading about all the qualities that makes you special as a person. After reading your post and watching all the video clips from all the persons that gave more information about the things that makes you special I noticed that determination, leadership, independence, communication, and professionalism are not the only qualities that makes you stand out. I also noticed that they see you as very organized, passionate, and outgoing. Great job with your post!

    Sincerely,

  2. Hey Jordan,
I think it's really cool to see how your friends and those close to you have identified traits that you never thought of yourself! It must be a good feeling seeing how far you've come as a young adult. I find that the qualities you listed were all very important and advantageous to have, which can only help you out in your future regarding your business endeavors. I found it quite entertaining how your boyfriend focused on your OCD tendencies. I've been in a similar situation with my ex-girlfriend and although it was a bit much, I was really happy at how everything around me was always clean and organized. Plus, that can only be a positive attribute when it comes to running your business! Great findings and I'm glad you were able to find out a little bit more about yourself.

  3. Hey Jordan,
I think you did a really good job on this assignment because it seems as if you were able to assess every part about you. While you assessed yourself as a student and leader, your friends and family identified unique aspects of your personality. Something that I think that would make this assignment more interesting would be to talk with a stranger for five minutes and then see if they can identify something unique about you. In the business world, it is our first impressions that can go a long way in determining if we get a job/position. It is certainly something to think about.

26A ·         This semester I did not necessarily fail a class or an exam but a goal I had set for myself. I had promised myself that I would not fall behind in my online classes and be scrambling for exams like I did last semester. By coming to ENT in person and watching my elective livestreamed I was mostly on top of it until my social schedule and sorority friends limited me from watching the 5 hours of economics lectures that were assigned every week. By the time spring break had finished I had over 30 hours of lectures that I needed to catch up on in 1 week for the upcoming exam. I feel like I had failed myself and fallen back into bad habits that led to my unsatisfactory grade last semester. ·         I learned that while a busy social schedule is fun and good for your happiness, choosing to put social or sorority life above your goals and the time required for your classes is never the correct ch...

14A- Halfway Reflection

14A- 1.       Tenacity is a competency:   In order to keep up with this course I have created an pre-deadline for myself to ensure all my assignments are completed before the due date and a high quality. Developing this habit has allowed me to manage my time more accurately and not turn in lackluster work. Because this class requires some outside of the library interaction, looking at assignments the week before they are due is now a behavior I have tried to implement this in the past few weeks when the assignments required interviews, which are not possible in the library at 2 am when you’re trying to beat a deadline. In order to be successful in ENT you must interact with other people and do so in a timely manner. 2.       Tenacity is also about attitude: When I was extremely a couple of weeks ago I put off all of my ENT homework because it is usually the last thing due for the week. By doing this however, I found myse...

29A 1.       Opportunity ·         New environmental protection movements have brought to light how environmentally damaging plastic is to our ecosystems, especially our oceans. The single use plastics are the greatest under fire because they are disposed of in great numbers and do not decompose, thus leaving trash to pollute the oceans and lands. ·         After a video emerged of a sea turtle having a straw stuck in its nostril, the push to stop the use of plastic straws was born. It began with the policy of not giving out straws unless asked, then to straw-less cups, and finally some cities have completely banned the distribution of plastic straws by restaurants and other straw serving establishments. With this came the implementation of paper straws in every restaurant, coffee shop, bar, and gas station. Paper straws were simply awful. They disintegrate in your drink and become l...
